Mass Water Works Association Names Dykema 2012 Legislator of the Year

Massachusetts Water Works Association (MWWA) has selected state Representative Carolyn Dykema (D-Holliston) to receive the 2012 Legislator of the Year award. The award is given annually to a legislator who has supported the water works community and contributed to protecting public health and providing a safe and sufficient supply of drinking water for the residents of Massachusetts. Representative Dykema is being honored for her leadership as House Chair of the Water Infrastructure Finance Commission.

Hopkinton Board of Health Seasonal Flu Clinic

The Hopkinton Board of Health Seasonal Flu Clinic through Century Health Systems will take place on Thursday October 18, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Senior Center which is located at 28 Mayhew Street, Hopkinton, MA. This will be the only clinic the Board of Health holds this season. The Clinic is for Hopkinton Residents 19 years of age or older.

High Risk Levels Continue in Hopkinton For Eastern Equine Encephalitis and West Nile Virus

Since the Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced on September 7, 2012 that the Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) human case, which resulted in the death of a Middlesex County resident an additional 4 human cases of EEE and 19 cases of West Nile Virus have occurred in the State. The individual who died had been exposed in Westborough and that resulted in the Town of Hopkinton being raised to HIGH RISK for Mosquito Borne illness.

Renovation and Construction Begins at Golden Pond

Seven new assisted living rooms, six studios and one 1-bedroom, are under construction at Golden Pond as part of their two-phased $20 million renovation and addition project. Work began at the beginning of October and Executive Director William Marr says they expect to have a Certificate of Occupancy by November 1.

Selectmen Review Dates and Issues for Fiscal Year 2014 Budget

“No way in heck will the citizens of Hopkinton entertain a 4.2 percent tax impact,” said Brian Herr after hearing the news from Finance Director Chris Ketchen that due to a series of unfortunate events from 10 to 15 years ago, the town is facing a “baked in” 4.2 percent budget increase for FY2014. “Four point two percent will not happen from my chair.”

Herr’s comment was made during the board’s discussion of the draft budget calendar at its October 2 meeting in which Ketchen outlined the budget deadlines dictated by the town charter and provided a preliminary budget forecast.

HCA Fresh Visions Exhibit Oct 12 - Nov 9

Recently artists have extended the practice of painting considerably as they explore various styles, materials, and methods. The broad range of work that comprises contemporary painting will be displayed at the Fresh Visions: Painting Now juried exhibition at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts, 98 Hayden Rowe in Hopkinton, from October 12 to November 9.

Notice from Water Department

On Tuesday, and Wednesday October 9th and 10th at approximately 9:00 AM, crews will be flushing portions of the newly installed water main on Front Street. This flushing is necessary in order to test the mains and prepare them for active service. Please check your water before using it to ensure that it has cleared from the flushing, should any discoloration occur. We estimate the flushing to take approximately one hour to complete.
