Road Work Notice for Church St & Church Place Residents & Businesses

On Tuesday July 31st, 2012 contractors working for the Town of Hopkinton DPW will begin work on Church St and Church PL. Work hours will be 7am-5pm. These roads will be completely reclaimed down to the gravel, graded, compacted, structures adjusted, berm replaced where needed and then paved. We anticipate all of the needed work will be completed in about three weeks depending on the weather, mechanical breakdowns and contractors scheduling issues.

Hopkinton Earns Insurance Premium Credits through MIIA Rewards Program

The Town of Hopkinton announced today that it has received $13,225 back on its workers compensation and property casualty insurance costs. Committed to keeping the community safer and fiscally stronger, the municipality earned the credits through participation in loss prevention and risk management activities that are part of incentive programs offered by the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA), its insurance provider.

Spilka Named to Head-Up Conference Committee on CHINS Reform

Today, Senator Karen Spilka announced that she was named to serve as the Senate Chair of the six member conference committee tasked with resolving the differences between the Senate and House versions of the legislation to reform the current system for helping children who consistently get in trouble at home or at school, including runaways and students who are habitually truant.

Aleck Venegas: Photographer

Aleck Venegas, the winner of the HCAM photo contest on Facebook, is a student at Hopkinton High School who has a passion for photography and blogging. He first discovered his love for photography during his freshman year after joining photo club.

“Madison McKenna, a graduated senior, was the president. And I watched her take pictures of people and it just really inspired me to become a photographer, " said Venegas.

Ever since then he has made photography his primary focus. He has taken multiple classes at Hopkinton High School, Asabet Valley, and MassArt.

Stillburnin on the Common

The Concert on the Commons summer series, sponsored by Hopkinton Parks and Recreation, continues through August 5. This past Sunday brought the southern rock band Stillburnin to the Town Common for a night of lively entertainment. To see video highlights of the band, watch the HCAM News video below. Bring a Little Friend to the Senior Center

It was a day filled with arts and crafts, games, and music at the Senior Center on July 20th. But the day's activities weren't just for the seniors. As part of the 6th Annual Bring A LittleFriend Day, which was sponsored by the Friends of the Senior Center, seniors got to bring along their grandchildren or other small family members for a day of fun. Even seniors that didn't bring little ones of their own had fun playing with the kids that attended the event.

The performances will be held on August 2, 3, and 4 at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts Amphitheater, 98 Hayden Rowe Street. The performances are free and begin at 7:30 p.m.

Latest Job and Unemployment Estimates for Local Labor Markets in the Massachusetts

BOSTON – Tuesday, July 24, 2012 – The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development today reported that the June 2012 seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates were down in the Barnstable, Fall River, Nantucket and Tisbury areas; unchanged in the Pittsfield area; and up in the other seventeen areas over the month. Over the year, the rates are down in all twenty two labor areas.
