Solar 101 at the Senior Center Tonight

The town of Hopkinton has been awarded a Solar Grant by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (CEC). To help citizens understand the program, the Sustainable Green Committee has scheduled an informational "Solar 101" event at the Senior Center meeting room from 7PM to 9M on Wednesday, May 30th. The CEC will be there to explain in detail how the Solarize program will work for town residents and business owners. The event will consist of a brief presentation followed by a Question & Answer session.

On Saturday, May 26, three telephone polls were down on Grove Street directly across from Colella's parking lot. B.J. Harvey of E.L. Harvey & Sons Honored with Distinguished Service Award from National Trade Association.

The Environmental Industry Associations (EIA) recognized Benjamin James Harvey at their National Convention in Las Vegas by awarding him The Distinguished Service Award. Several years ago, Benjamin accepted leadership of The Future Industry Leaders Alliance which provides young industry leaders opportunities to improve their management skills, identify business opportunities and network. He helped draft by-laws, set specific goals, formulate a mentoring program, and develop educational webinars for members.

The Hopkinton Parks & Recreation is accepting coaching applications for the upcoming 2012 season in all divisions. The deadline for submission is Friday, June 15th, when all applications will be submitted to the board for approval and selections. Background checks and interviews are required.

Coaching applications can be downloaded from the handouts section of website or picked up during office hours at the Parks and Recreation office.

Landman Resigns Effective June 30, 2012

The Hopkinton School Committee and Dr. Jonathan Landman wish to announce that the School Committee is in receipt of the resignation of Dr. Landman as Superintendent of Schools, effective June 30th. Sign Up Begins for 1-to-1 Laptop Initiative for Incoming Freshman

For the past five years, teachers and administrators at Hopkinton High School have been laying the groundwork for the implementation of the 1-1 Laptop Initiative.

“In the world of computers and education today, we have been moving from a 5-1 ratio, five students to one computer, to a 1-1 ratio," says Technology Director Kathy Dooley. "And that's a standard that is published by the Department of Education in Massachusetts, and the guidelines are for that to happen in the 2014-2015 school year.

Epcot "Land Exhibit" Designer to Present at Water Fresh Farm

Dr. Merle Jensen, designer of the hydroponic displays in the Land Exhibit at Epcot and consultant to Water Fresh Farm since its inception, will be speaking at Water Fresh Farm at 11am on Saturday, May 26th. The subject of his talk will be Hydroponic Growing, Past, Present, and Future, including projects that have brought fresh vegetables to the food deserts of the world, the new hydroponic greenhouse in the Antarctic and the work being done in the lab geared toward growing on the moon.
