Rachel Runs For Friend

By contributor,

I am running the Boston Marathon this year for my dear friend, Kevin Bossart.

Kevin recently suffered cardiac arrest due to a prior existing heart condition - this occurrence left Kevin in a coma. Kevin has made a miraculous recovery that is astounding everyone, including his doctors!

Although, Kevin's road to recovery is just beginning. I am trying to raise $3000.00 for Kevin and his family to try and ease some of the financial strain that will soon be coming their way.

On Mar 8th, 9 Destination Imagination (DI) teams from Hopkinton participated in the Region 7 tournament held at Uxbridge High School. 6 of those teams bagged the first or the second place in their respective categories. And 4 of these teams advance to the State level tournament to be held at WPI on 3/29/2014. HHS Presents Vietnam War Drama

By contributor,

Hopkinton High School’s drama students on March 13 to 15 will present “A Piece of My Heart,” Shirley Lauro’s emotionally charged play depicting the experiences of nurses serving in Vietnam.

The play, which the Vietnam Vets Association calls “the most enduring play on Vietnam in the nation,” portrays the young nurses before, during, and after their tour and ends as each leaves a personal token at the Vietnam memorial wall in Washington. It was adapted from Keith Walker’s 1986 book of the same name, which included oral histories from 26 women who served in Vietnam.

Beat the Beep: Replace Aging CO Alarms – They Don’t Last Forever

By contributor,

Carbon monoxide (CO) alarms have been required in nearly every residence since March of 2006. The life expectancy of carbon monoxide alarms is 5-7 years, depending on the alarm manufacturer. Many CO alarms installed after the state’s CO law was passed are now reaching the end of their useful life and need to be replaced. No home appliance lasts forever.

The life of a CO alarm begins once it is first powered up. Most CO alarms have a date of manufacture stamped on them, which can be used as a guide if the activation date was not recorded.

Change Clocks and Batteries

By Mike Torosian, Production Coordinator

Next weekend means March 9, 2014. The official change of time begins at 2 a.m. early on Sunday morning when most computer and electronic clocks will automatically reset themselves and jump one hour ahead. So instead of 2 a.m., the clocks will show 3 a.m.

Daylight Saving Time is a way of making better use of the daylight in the evenings by setting the clocks forward one hour during the longer days of summer. In the United States, the time will fall back again on Nov. 2, 2014, when DST ends.

Principal Martineau Squashes Rumors At Hopkins

By contributor,

It has come to my attention that there is a rumor spreading amongst Hopkins students that a student injured a staff member at Hopkins School. I would like to clearly communicate that there is no truth to this rumor. Although the Hopkinton Paramedics were called to Hopkins School yesterday, it was due to a student medical issue (purely precautionary). I appreciate parents reaching out to Hopkins School and sharing that this information was spreading amongst Hopkins students.
