Rummage Sale at Senior Center This Week

Volunteers have been hard at work preparing for the Senior Center's 5th Annual Rummage Sale being held this Thursday through Saturday. Customers who come on Saturday will be treated to something extra special as they will have the opportunity to fill up a bag with anything that fits for one price. The money made from the sale is a vital part in helping to maintain the services that the center provides to residents.

From dishes and other kitchen items, to clothes and accessories, and even electronics, the rummage sale has something for everyone!

Senior Center Receives Gift at Veterans Breakfast

On May 6th, Hopkinton veterans gathered together for their monthly breakfast at the Senior Center. This month's breakfast featured a special presentation by Hopkinton Independent Editor Sarah Duckett. Duckett donated a framed copy of Dustin Neece's painting, "Honoring the Spirit", to the Senior Center.

The painting, which was inspired by the stories of Hopkinton veterans who served inthe Battle of Iwo Jima, has garnered critcal acclaim, even being displayed at the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico, Virginia during the month of February.

Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

On Saturday, May 14, letter carriers across the country, in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, will be collecting food for families in need. Here's how you can help: Bag non-perishable food items and leave them at your mailbox on Saturday morning for pickup and delivery to the local food bank. Here in Hopkinton, all of the food collected will go the the Hopkinton Food Pantry at Project Just Because. Project Just Because will be open all day from 11am to 5pm on Saturday to accept donations.

Traces WWII Museum Coming to Hopkinton

A museum, within a large bus, will be at the Hopkinton Town Common from 11-5am on Friday, May 13. Admission is fee to all. This event is being co-sponsored by the Hopkinton Public Library, the Hopkinton Historical Society and the Veterans Celebration Committee. This military history is being presented as part of Hopkinton’s celebration of May as Veteran’s Appreciation Month.

A Visit to the HPTA Green Expo

Hopkinton High School was the setting for the HPTA's Green Expo on Saturday, April 30th. With over thirty different vendors and booths, residents had multiple opportunities to learn how to reduce their environmental footprint.

A sculpture called the "Bottle House" encouraged visitors to sign pledges and say no to plastic bottles and bags.

Representatives from Angel's Garden Center were on hand to demontrate how to pot plants and children left with a plant to take home.

Several vendors showcased their natural products, including including Busy Bee Lip Balm, made from beeswax.

Hopkinton During the 1950's: A Hop, Skip and a Jump Down Memory Lane

Listen as Adult Services Librarian Susan Marshall and Paul Annunziata, a long-time Hopkinton resident, talk about an exciting new program at the Hopkinton Public Library. Susan and Paull hope that you will join them for the premier showing of a movie based on Paul's memories of growiing up on Main Street in Hopkinton. "A Hope, Skip and a Jump Down Memory Lane" recalls downtown Hopkinton during the 1950's and 1960's. Don't miss this opportunity to watch the first in a series of living histories being created by the Hopkinton Public Library.

New Location - Hopkinton High School

Come join us for an Earth Day celebration hosted by the HPTA, at the Hopkinton High School, on Saturday, April 30th from 10am – 3pm and learn how to reduce your environmental footprint. The Hopkinton Green Expo includes live entertainment, 30+ green vendors, green product demos including a beehive, a rain barrel and a Prius Hybrid from Zipcar as well as plenty of activities to keep the kids busy for hours. It’s all free!

Please join the Hopkinton Veteran’s Celebration Committee on SUNDAY, May 1 as we join thousands of communities across America for a remembrance ceremony at the Evergreen Cemetery (Woodville) in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. The Committee is hosting a “Sunday Taps Vigil” starting at 7:00 p.m.

The ceremony will consist of a short tribute to American soldiers, veterans and their families and is expected to last 15 minutes. The ceremony will include the sounding of the 24 hauntingly beautiful notes of “Taps.”

Relay for Life Fashion Show and Silent Auction

The month of May means Relay for Life, not only in Hopkinton, but throughout many of our surrounding towns. I'd like to you meet a Natick dance instructor, owner of Cinderella Contessa's Slippers, Inc., who will be donating six weeks of her time during the silent auction portion of a Relay for Life Fashion Show to be held at the Crowne Plaza, 1360 Worcester Road, Natick MA Friday, May 6th at 6PM.
