Community Notice: Last Day to Take Out and Return Nomination Papers is Monday, April 2nd

The last day to take out and return nomination papers for open elected positions in the coming Annual Town Election on Monday, May 7th is this Monday, April 2nd. If you have interest in pulling papers or need to turn in your papers, please come by my temporary office located at 80 South Street by 5 PM on Monday, April 2nd.

As required by Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 111, Section 31, notice is hereby given, that the Hopkinton Board of Health will hold a public hearing on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 6:45 p.m. at the Hopkinton Senior Center (Great Room), 28 Mayhew Street, Hopkinton, MA, to hear, accept comments and to consider adoption of amendments to the Board of Health Code of Regulations Section 8.5, (8.5.1 and 8.5.1.1), Sale of Tobacco.

As required by Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 111, Section 31, notice is hereby given, that the Hopkinton Board of Health will hold a public hearing on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 5:45 p.m. at the Hopkinton Senior Center (Great Room), 28 Mayhew Street, Hopkinton, MA, to hear, accept comments and to consider adoption of a Reduction in Single-Use Plastic Check Out Bags-Board of Health Code of Regulations Section 18-18 6.2.5. Copies of the proposed regulation are available at the Board of Health Office, Web Page and will be available at the hearing.

Educate Hopkinton hosted a public forum regarding town growth and development. Educate Hopkinton (eHop) President, Nanda Barker-Hook started off by presenting some of the facts about town growth. Friday Last Day To license Your Dog.

This is just a reminder that Friday, March 30th is the last day to get your dogs licensed for 2018 without being assessed a late fee of $25 (starting April 1st). If you cannot make it to the office or do not think a mailed payment will arrive on time, make your payment online here. Those residents over the age of 70 do not need to pay a registration fee but will still be assessed a late fee if your dog's registration is received after April 1st.

Video: BVT Students show Hopkinton Fire Department "EZ Escape" System

Three students from Blackstone Valley Tech High School (Noah Boudreau, Kevin Healy and Andrew Regan) visited the Hopkinton Fire Department to show off their "EZ Escape" system. The system is meant to help evacuate buildings during emergencies. The students will be entering the design into the Skills USA competition and the students are hoping the design can be sold and used. The system was primarily designed for fires but has opportunity to be used in other emergency situations such as an active shooter. View the video below to hear more about the "EZ Escape" system.

Video: Board of Selectmen and School Committee Talk 2019 Budget

The Hopkinton Board of Selectmen and School Committee met this past week to talk about the 2019 fiscal year budget. The goal of the meeting was to discuss ways to decrease the 7.4% increase of the School Committee budget in order to avoid going over the projected town tax rate increase of 5%. The School committee had concerns that further cuts could lead to insufficient funds to maintain all of the current school programs.

Secretary of Veterans’ Services Francisco Ureña visits Middlesex Sheriff’s Housing Unit for Military Veterans (HUMV)

BILLERICA, Mass. – Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian welcomed Massachusetts Department of Veterans’ Services Secretary Francisco A. Ureña for a visit to the Housing Unit for Military Veterans (HUMV) on Wednesday, March 14, 2018.

The visit to the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction came nearly two years to the day after Governor Charlie Baker helped formally open the Commonwealth’s only dedicated unit for incarcerated Veterans.

Massachusetts State Senator, Karen Spilka recently talked with HCAM news. Topics included, a recent bill for capital facility repairs and improvements in the Metrowest that recently passed. The 3.65 billion dollar bond includes $2,000,000 for improvements in Hopkinton's town hall and I also asked about a recent piece of legislation passed known as the "Patch Act".
