Robert Bushway Resigns as Hopkinton’s Principal Assessor
Hopkinton’s Board of Assessor Chair, Dr. John Duffy, and Norman Khumalo, Town Manager, regret to announce that Mr. Bob Bushway has resigned from his position as Principal Assessor effective Friday, August 1, 2014. Mr. Bushway’s contribution to the Town during his 15-year tenure, and at a time when the Town was experiencing tremendous growth, is remarkable. During that time his passion for his work here in Hopkinton was evident in his work with the Board of Assessors, his professional representation of the Town, and his respectful interaction with the Town’s residents.
Absentee Ballot Notice for September 9, 2014
The September 9, 2014 State Primary Election Absentee Ballots are now available at the Town Clerk’s Office. Absentee ballots are for those registered voters who are unable to vote at the polls on election day due to: (1) absence from the town during normal polling hours; (2) physical disability preventing you from going to the polling place; or (3) religious belief. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is at Also, the last day to register to vote and change party enrollment for the September 9, 2014 State Primary Election is Wednesday, August 20, 2014 (MGL c. 51; §26).

School Committee Plans for the Year Ahead
The School Committee met Monday, July 14th to discuss multiple budget, policy, and evaluation matters pertinent to the upcoming school year.
At the start of the meeting, Tim Kearnan presented to the committee as the new principal of Hopkins school. Mr. Kearnan gave his background and stated his goals for the upcoming school year. Superintendent MacLeod updated the committee on a grant for new LED lighting around the schools, and Ralph Dumas updated the committee on the RFP process and the exciting new allocation of funds in that area.
Hazardous Waste Collection Day 2014
The Hopkinton DPW will conduct a Household Hazardous Waste Collection this Saturday, July 19th, from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm, or until the funds are exhausted, at the DPW Garage at 83 Wood Street.

Planning Board Reviews Laurel Avenue Extension
The Planning Board met on Monday, July 7 to discuss a possible extension to Laurel Avenue that would potentially allow for a new single family home to be built on Laurel Avenue. Discussions were continued at the time as there are many factors to consider, such as the steep grading and water runoff on Laurel Avenue. Presenting the plan at the meeting was developer Thomas Perna, engineer Patrick Burke, and attorney Doug Resnick who represented both Perna and the Dardinski family who are the current property owners.
Hopkinton Selectmen Vote to Recognize and Support Mission of the 26.2 Foundation
The 26.2 Foundation on June 24, 2014 received the full support of the Hopkinton Board of Selectmen with a unanimous 5-0 vote for a motion that recognized the Foundation as a community asset and expressed the board’s support for the Foundation’s mission - to promote and support marathoning, as well as health, wellness and economic development initiatives through strategic investments in innovative, multi-generational programs on local, regional, national, and global levels - for the benefit of Hopkinton.
Trash Collection Delay Friday Only
The 4th of July holiday will only affect Friday's trash and recyclables collection. The collection for Friday the 4th will occur on Saturday the 5th. There are no other changes to the schedule for the week.
