On October 8th, Karen Franks, 66, of Hopkinton went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ after a ten year battle with breast cancer. She died at

Rita M. Cassidy, 97, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012.
Born in Framingham, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth (Brown) and
George Daley. She was the wife of the late Gerald J. Cassidy Sr.

A former Hopkinton resident, Rita had worked for Fenwal in Ashland and
then later worked for Sears in Framingham after retiring from Fenwal where
she worked for over 20 year's as the executive secretary for the V P.

She is survived by her children, Gerald Cassidy Jr. and his wife Eileen of
Bonita Springs, FL. and York, Maine, John Cassidy and his wife Susan of

Marilyn Janice (Melvin) Cousins 81

Marilyn Janice (Melvin) Cousins age 81 of Concord passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at her residence. She was the beloved wife of Norman A. Cousins. Born in Hopkinton on September 29, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Curtis J. and Grace (MacNormand) Melvin. Raised and educated in Hopkinton she attended Newton Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. Mrs. Cousins married and settled in Concord. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Newton-Wellesley Hospital and then for many years as a childcare provider.

Evangeline Payson 91

Evangeline (Vellios) Payson , 91, passed away September 25, 2012. She had
been a resident at Holy Trinity Nursing Home in Worcester for over four
years due to declining health and was a former resident of Hopkinton. Born
and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late George
and Aspasia (Sarafopolis) Vellios. She was the beloved wife of Hollis E.
Payson who died in 1994, to whom she was married for 50 years.

Evangeline attended Harris Teachers College and Washington University in
St. Louis where she met her husband, Hollis. She loved reading and

Rodney F. Oehley, 60, died suddenly Sunday September 16, 2012 at Milford Hospital. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Donald V. Oehley and Kathaleen (Burr) Oehley of Hopkinton. He was the fiancé of Deborah Watson of Woonsocket.

He was a 1970 graduate of Hopkinton High School and was employed by Paramont Industries. He was an umpire in the National Umpires Association of Babe Ruth Leagues. His favorite pastime was watching his grandchildren in sports, gymnastics and dance.

Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Agnes (Welch) and Waldo
Anderson. He was the husband of 39 years to Dianne (Marshall) Anderson of

Robert was a 1970 graduate of Framingham South High and attended Bryant
College. He was formerly employed by Metrowest News and has worked at
Tufts Health Plan as an IS Production Services Manager for 19 years.
Robert was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He

Brandon Joseph Showalter, 28

Brandon Joseph Showalter, 28, passed away suddenly from a heart-related illness on Saturday, Augsust 25, 2012. Born in Boston, he was the son of Ronald A. and Catherine (Cotter) Showalter of Hopkinton and East Dennis.

He was a 2002 graduate of Hopkinton High School and attended UMass Amherst. He was the vice president of operations at All Pro Cleaning Systems of Westborough. He was an avid Boston sports fan and loved watching NASCAR.

Ray Fair, An Old Soldier

Raymond J. Fair, Jr., the oldest veteran in Hopkinton, passed away on 13 July 2012. Ray was 94 years old. He served proudly in the US Army during World War II.

When the USA entered WW II, Ray was granted deferments for his work in defense operations. At 26 when finally drafted, he processed through Fort Devens before training at Camp Gruber in Oklahoma. When his unit transferred to Louisiana, Ray became a member of the newly-formed (February 1943) 985th Field Artillery Battalion. He was assigned to Battery A.

Donna M. McGuire, 68

Donna M. McGuire, 68, died Sunday August 12, 2012 surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the loving wife of Frank J. McGuire, to whom she was married for 41 wonderful years. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Robert Marone and Helen Tuttle Marone of Poughkeepsie.

Donna graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1962 and received her associate’s degree from Dutchess Community College in 1964. She also received her paralegal certificate from Bentley College after moving to Boston in 1967.
