Changes to Bus Fee Payments

A number of important procedural changes have been made to the bus fee payment and application process for the 2011-2012 school year. According to an email to parents from the Hopkinton Public Schools, bus routes and stops will be assigned immediately after the June 17th deadline for payment.

If payments are received (or postmarked) by Friday, June 17, 2011, the cost for a bus pass for the 2011-2012 school-year is $210 per student with a family cap of $420.

BOARD OF SELECTMEN PUBLIC FORUM - April 27, 2011

The Board of Selectmen in conjunction with the School Committee will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Hopkinton Senior Center’s main meeting room at 7PM. The Boards will provide the community a forum to voice opinions and share ideas on how to best move forward with the Center School. Landman Weighs in on Districting

Hopkinton's next Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Jonathan Landman, spoke at a public forum held to allow residents and parents to meet him and to ask questions. 17th Annual Student Government Breakfast

The 17th Annual Student Government Breakfast took place on March 25th at the High School cafeteria. Members of the Junior Class that participated in the Local Government Project had the opportunity to mingle with local officials to discuss what they had learned. Seated at assigned tables, representatives from local boards and committees, including the Board of Selectmen, the Planning Board, the Marathon Fund Committee, Town Manager’s Office and the Hopkinton Police and Fire Departments, met with students to relate their experiences in local government and answer questions.

With the failure of the elementary school project at Special Town Meeting and again at the ballot, Hopkinton is required to provide the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) with a response that details why the vote failed and outlines possible next steps. After a lengthy discussion on Tuesday, March 29, at a joint meeting of the Board of Selectmen, the School Committee and and Elementary School Building Committee, a draft of that response was agreed upon. The final letter to the MSBA was finalized by Superintendent Phelan and Selectman Chair RJ Dourney.

Boards Struggle with Response to the MSBA

As a result of the defeat of the proposed elementary school at Fruit Street at the ballot on Monday, the School Committee met with the Board of Selectmen and the Elementary School Build Committee to regroup and to discuss the town’s response to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA). Approval at the ballot and at Special Town Meeting was required to secure funding from the MSBA, and with the failed votes, the town now has until Thursday, March 31 to explain what went wrong, and to convince the MSBA that Hopkinton is committed to a revised plan of action.
