Kenyan Runners visit Elmwood School

On Monday, Hopkinton will be the focus of the world as thousands descend upon the town to begin running the Boston Marathon. Thursday marked an annual event that allows Elmwood School students to take an active role for the pre-race celebration. Each year, a group of elite Kenyan runners stops by the elementary school for a pre-marathon rally. It is an event that has left an indelible mark on current High School seniors Kellie Lodge and Kim Bolick.

Today, RUN with KENYANS announced at the Boston Marathon Sports and Fitness Expo that runners of all skill levels can come to Kenya and experience the joy and adventure of running with world-class athletes in a region considered the Mecca of endurance running.

Middle School Hockey Champions

Congratulations to the Hopkinton Middle School Hockey team on their second straight divisional championship! The team posted a 3-1 victory over King Philip at the Foxboro Sports Center. The Hillers rattled off nine straight win to finish out the season.

The team was coached by Leo Squatrito and Eric Carty. Lynn McCluskey served as the team Manager. The Hillers were lead by 8th graders #42 Brandon Carty, #40 Tim Greizer, # 31 TJ Fujiyoshi, # 32 Brendan O’Leary, #43 Nick Pomeroy and #25 Dominic Yannino.

High School Students to Work Boston Marathon Broadcast

On Monday, April 4, high school students across Boston assembled as part of the 100+ member team working behind the scenes at the 115th Boston Marathon. WBZ-TV is the exclusive local broadcast partner of the Boston Marathon, providing the only start-to-finish coverage of the race.

WBZ news anchor and marathoner Lisa Hughes welcomed the students to WBZ. “We can't do this without you and we thank you for joining our team,” she added. Backing up Hughes, WBZ sports reporter Steve Burton also thanked the group adding, "You are our eyes and ears on race day. We depend on your reports.”

New Start Structure for the 2011 Boston Marathon.

The B.A.A. will employ a third wave for the start of the 2011 Boston Marathon, creating a more efficient and improved running experience for participants in the 115th edition of the world’s oldest and most prestigious annual marathon. This year’s race will be held on Monday, April 18: Patriots’ Day in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Hopkinton Cheerleaders Hold Annual Banquet

On March 30, the Hopkinton Hiller Cheerleaders held their annual banquet at the Hopkinton Country Club. The team celebrated a year's worth of accomplishments and friendship. In addition to cheering at the Hiller football and basketball games, the cheerleaders compete as a team during the weekends and successfully won a bid to Massachusetts States competition for the third straight year.

Coach Melissa Zwang was grateful for all the support she has received this past year.

Girls 7th Grade Travel Basketball Wins State Tournament

Congratulations to the Hopkinton Girls 7th grade "A" Travel Basketball team for winning the Massachusetts State Basketball Tournament this month in Foxboro, Mass. The girls defeated Charlton, Duxbury and Medfield to win the championship. The team finished 11-1 in Metro West Division 1 and finished with an overall record of 26-3. This is the team’s 2nd consecutive state championship! Pictured in front row (left to right): Sarah Bertschmann, Allie Rodman, Alli McNulty, Kate Welzel and Jen Manning.

Hopkinton Basketball Teams Advance to Semi-Finals at the Garden

"I am pleased to announce that both our boys and girls basketball teams have advanced again to the state semi-final round of the MIAA basketball tournament," said Principal Alyson Geary in an email to parents. "Both teams fought extremely hard for their wins last night at UMass Boston and we are so proud of our players, as well as our student fans that supported our teams in a positive and appropriate way."

Tuesday, February 15, 2011 - The Boys Varsity Basketball game tonight against Ashland will air live on Channels 10 and 31. Both the Boys and Girls games will replay starting at 10:00pm tonight and again on Saturday.
