Well, I just noticed I haven’t updated my blog in months. I am so busy tracking down news events, making TV segments, writing scripts etc., that I just haven’t had the time. But I’ve decided I should make the time to bring everyone up to date.
HCAM News is now into its 8th month of production and we’re getting better as time goes on. We have updated our news set and added another anchor to some of our shows and it looks pretty good! We hope that some of you are watching us (no, we really hope you are all watching.)
So what do you think about what’s going on in your town? School is back is session, the state election is coming up and there is a lot going on. We’re here to help you stay up to date.
What do you think about the Golden Pond expansion? Who should pay for the turning lanes and sidewalks?
Did your kids use to take the late bus? How is that going now that it’s no longer available?
And what about the election? Have you been following the latest news? What do you think about Loscocco’s decision to leave Cahill and his bid for Lt. Governor to back Republican Charlie Baker?
Do you have a news tip? Let us know. Do you have an event that you need help publicizing? Let us know. HCAM News is all Hopkinton, all the time and we are here to keep Hopkinton up to date.
Until next post,
Michelle

Haven’t posted lately — I’ve been too busy writing news scripts. HCAM News is going strong. We’ve now been on air for almost two months. Somehow it seems much longer than that.
I am actually feeling much more comfortable on camera, can actually say I am getting used to it. A few people I have recently met have even said they saw me on TV! That’s rewarding. A lot of hard work and effort from everyone at HCAM goes into producing the news show and I hope that our audience is growing.
So, if you’re an HCAM News viewer, let us know. And if you haven’t tuned it yet, give it a try.
There’s lot of news in Hopkinton right now…the Boston Marathon just finished and Town Meeting and elections are coming up soon. Stay tuned to HCAM News to stay up to date…

Are you watching HCAM News? We’ve all been working very hard to produce this new show and I’d like to know who’s watching…..What do you think? Have you tuned in or have you tuned us out? HCAM News airs every Monday, Wed, and Friday at 6PM. Are you home at 6PM? Is this a good time to catch up on local Hopkinton news? Or would another time be more convenient?
If you are watching, what do you think? Is there anything else you would like us to cover? Do you have an idea for a story? Would you like to volunteer and work on news stories?
Well, that’s enough questions for now….I just really want to know who’s watching…so if you are, let us know….you can post on our facebook fan page or email me at michelle@hcam.tv
PS — If you are watching, thank you!

Hey we did it! We have completed our first week of HCAM News…and it actually went better than I expected. Now, there’ll be no stopping us….the nervous jitters are gone and now it’s time to work on the next editions for the upcoming week. After much discussion, we have decided that the best format for HCAM News is to have 30% new content each show, helping us to stay current and still allowing multiple showings of our feature segments.
So, if you haven’t tuned in yet, watch for this week’s show on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6PM on Channel 8 (Comcast) and Channel 30 (Verizon)…..I’m Michelle Murdock….and that’s your news, Hopkinton.

Well, since I am working so hard to plan the debut of our upcoming news show on March 1, I hope that everyone reading this (and I hope someone is reading this) will tell everyone they know about HCAM News. Remember when you were a kid and it was always fun to get your name in the paper? Well, now, you might be able to get not only your name, but your face, on TV – how cool would that be?
We are hoping to cover lots of community events so if you are involved in any, there is a good chance you might see our news team out and about. Don Cronin, a Hopkinton resident, has joined HCAM-TV as our News Producer. Don might be shooting what those in the trade call “B-roll” (a new term for me too). But basically B-roll is the term for pictures which accompany the audio in a newscast.
Don has an extensive background in the media business. He’s a part-time radio anchor/reporter for MetroTraffic in Boston and is responsible for delivering news and traffic on WRKO-AM 68O and on Sirius satellite radio. Don also has experience in news production at WNDS-TV and has been a director at WGBH-TV in Boston. Most recently, he managed the community media center in Winchester MA.
Mark Collins, another Hopkinton resident, will also be joining our news team as a staff reporter. Mark has his own photographic and graphic design business and will now be part of our team as one of my co-anchors and contributing reporters.
Mike Preite, Parks & Recreation Director and the President of the HCAM Board of Directors will act as co-anchor as well.
We have also been fortunate enough to recruit some volunteer reporters. Nancy (Punky) Drawe will be covering the senior beat and Maura Shea has offered to help us cover school news. Kelly Grill of Enter Stage Left and Cheryl Perreault have offered their help with arts and entertainment.
If you have a particular passion for a certain topic and would like to contribute, please don’t hesitate to let us know…and please, remember to watch for our first news show on March 1.

Well, it’s almost time to cast your vote for the selectman candidate of your choice. And yes, I know there is only one contested race and one question on the ballot, but it’s still important to get out and vote. No complaining allowed if you don’t take the opportunity to have your say via the ballot. HCAM-TV will be covering the election live — hosted by Casey Pulnik and myself — hope to see you there!

Well, it will soon be time for the Hopkinton Independent selectman candidate debate on HCAM-TV. We are scheduled for Wednesday, April 22 at 7:30PM LIVE in the HCAM studios. I know, I know, it’s school vacation week, but if you haven’t left town, tune in or stop by and learn more about each candidates views and what they can do for Hopkinton, if elected. Do you know who is running for selectman? If not, this is a great opportunity to find out and more!
I’ll be busy over the next week or so coming up with questions for the candidates. Our goal at each debate is to ask questions that will highlight and draw out the differences between the candidates on important issues facing the town and allow voters to see those differences. Do you have a particular interest or is there something you really want to know about any of the candiates? Send me an email about what you would like us to ask at michmurdock@hcam.tv.
If you miss the live broadcast, watch for replays on HCAM-TV!

Have you heard.....
Well, I haven’t posted for awhile, but I have been paying attention to what’s happening around town. Looks like the candidates for selectman are starting to appear (and disappear) and we now have a contested race – much more interesting from a reporter’s perspective even if the candidates would prefer to run unopposed. Stick around for our election coverage as the campaign season begins.
Attended the Women’s Club Go Green event on Saturday and skipped out on the selectmen’s big budget meeting, so I will have to get back up to speed there. The deadline for the presentation of the final budget to the Appropriations Committee is coming up fast – April 1 – so some more definite decisions will have to be made shortly. Watch for updates as we follow the money trail….
And lastly, I am working on a story about the Net Gen Project at the high school. This is a first time project at the high school where students work collaboratively with over 300 students worldwide. It’s amazing to see the opportunities that techology makes available to students today.
Well, that’s it for now. I’ll check back in soon — and please, if you have a story idea you like to see highlighted on HCAM.TV, please send me an email at michmurdock@hcam.tv.
