Veterans Day occurs every year on November 11th to honor American Veterans of all wars. (Veteran definition – All who served active duty and were “honorably discharged”)
Started in 1919 as “Armistice Day” to celebrate the end of World War I, our Federal Government changed the name of the day to “Veterans Day” to commemorate “All Veterans” in 1954. As a note, this passed in Congress with a voice vote which means a clear majority yah or nay, imagine that, a vote in Congress where a clear majority agreed! A day now viewed as a day to celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
There are several ways to celebrate Veterans Day. Our town has events throughout the day that are listed below. Please consider joining your neighbors at one or more of these events. If you are unsure how to recognize a Veteran you know, a simple recognition of the day or a thank you for your service is always appreciated.
