The Role of Women in Chinese Culture

On Monday, March 12 at 7:30PM, the Hopkinton Women's Club presents "The Role of Women in Chinese Culture", a presentation by Wang Xiaono, the Chinese exchange teacher at Hopkinton High School. The program takes place at the Faith Community Church, 146 E. Main Street, Hopkinton, MA. THis is a community event and the Women's Club invites all residents to attend.

Middle School Principal Alan Keller to Run Boston Marathon

The Hopkinton Education Foundation today announced, the “Run a Principal Out of Town” (RAPOOT) fundraising program. This program, the first of its kind, is a collaborative fundraising effort supporting education, community, health and athletics. The Hopkinton Education Foundation and the Hopkinton Public Schools are coming together with the support of the 26.2 Foundation to sponsor Hopkinton Middle School principal, Alan Keller, to run the 116th Boston Marathon on April 16, 2012.

School/West Main Street Intersection Plan on Selectmen's Agenda Tuesday Night

The next meeting of the Board of Selectmen is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6 and beginning at 7PM representatives from WorldTech Engineering will present their findings to the board regarding the intersection at School and West Main Street.

According to a letter from DPW Director John Westerling to Town Manager Norman Khumalo, the WorldTech engineers will discuss:

  • the methodology used to evaluate the existing conditions,
  • the alternatives that were evaluated,
  • their recommended solution (installation of a traffic signal), and
  • options for funding

Meredith Prunty Continues Anti-Bullying Efforts

Hopkinton High sophomore Meredith Prunty, who is an actress and anti-bullying advocate, spoke at an event in Kingston Massachusetts on February 25th. Besides Prunty, the gala also featured Raiko Bowman, one of the stars of the upcoming movie "The Hunger Games", Paisley Dickey, from the hit TLC television show "Toddlers and Tiaras", as well as another anti-bullying advocate Elizabeth Percy.

Notice Regarding the Position of Assistant Town Clerk

I am pleased to announce that Geri Holland has accepted the position of Assistant Town Clerk in the Town Clerk's office.

Geri has been a highly valued member of the Executive Secretary/Town Manager/Board of Selectmen's Office since 1996 and has made numerous meritorious contributions to the office. Although the Town Clerk's office works closely with all town departments, I will miss Geri's daily camaraderie.

School Committee to Form Ad-Hoc Committee to Evaulate Options for Hopkinton's Elementary Schools

At its March 1, 2012 meeting, the School Committee voted to create a Criteria Working Group (‘CWG’)
to draft potential criteria against which future Elementary School Building Project options will be
measured.

The CWG will be officially appointed by the School Committee as an ad-hoc committee. The CWG will be
led by the Assistant Superintendent and will report directly to the School Committee. No School
Committee members will participate in the work group. All interested citizens are encouraged to apply.

Much Ado About Nothing Next Weekend

Hopkinton High School Drama Ensemble is getting ready to perform their winter offering, Much Ado about Nothing by William Shakespeare. The set is built, the costumes created, and the lines memorized.

The cast includes 40 students, featuring the work of Mehr Kaur as Beatrice, Kate Brush as Hero, Alex Kirshy as Benedick, Aiden Connelly as Claudio, and Liam Horsman as Don Pedro. The play is set at an Italian Villa in Tuscany in the mid 1980's.
