Vincent J. Gately, 72

Vincent J. Gately, 72, of Hopkinton, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Patricia (Clark) and George Gately. He was the husband of 50 years to Janis (Zappala) Gately of Hopkinton.

Vin attended Boston English High School. After graduating from Babson College, he began his career at Ernst & Young as a CPA. He later joined Plumbhouse, where he learned the construction business, eventually starting his own construction and building company. Vin built many homes and several condominium developments. His most recent project, The Trails, was his largest and most meaningful vision of a true community. He was especially proud of the clubhouse and found joy in seeing residents gather there for events. He loved going on family vacations and attending his children, Karen and Michael’s, sporting events when they were younger, traveling near and far to watch them. He was all about sports and was a huge Pats fan, but golf was his true passion. He belonged to several local clubs, with Pinehurst holding a special place, along with his many cherished trips to Ireland. The light of his life was his two grandsons, Conor and Thomas. He treasured time spent with them at their beach house, digging for crabbies, visiting the aquarium, and going on fishing trips. He was so excited to watch Conor play hockey and looked forward to getting the schedule of games.

In addition to his wife, Vincent is survived by two children, Michael Gately of London and Karen Belniak and her husband, Patrick, of Hopkinton. He also leaves behind his brother, John Gately of Norwood, and Susan Gately and her partner, Stephen Wysocki of West Roxbury; and his two grandsons, Conor and Thomas Belniak; as well as a niece and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 6th, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. at Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton, 57 Hayden Rowe St. A funeral service will follow at 11:45 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to YMCA in the memory of Vin to help support the new Y to be built in Ashland https://ymcametrowest.sgasoftware.com/Sales/Product/Guest?GuestID=10 or to Habitat for Humanity, habitat.org
