Students Perform at State House
By Michelle Murdock

Students from Hopkinton’s 8th Grade Band, Chorus and String Ensemble performed at the State House last week at the invitation of State Representative Carolyn Dykema and Senator Karen Spilka.

Performances at the State House are not new, but according to Band Director Craig Hay, this was the first time, to his knowledge, that Hopkinton music students had been invited to perform.

A total of 91 chorus members, 84 band members and 9 members of the string ensemble assembled at the Grand Staircase at the State House to perform for invited state house staff. Many parents of the music students also made the trip into Boston to hear their children perform.

According to Band Director Dave Purdy, students worked hard to prepare for this event, as their last concert was in December, leaving them only a few months to get ready for the performance at the State House.

In addition to performing, students were also treated to a tour of the State House, visiting the House or Senate Chambers. After their performance, students lunched in the Hall of Flags before returning to Hopkinton.

HCAM-TV was on site to record the performance which will be aired at various times throughout the month of February. Please see the program schedule for more detailed date and time information here.
