Hydrant Activity and Repairs

The
water department fixed a leaking fire hydrant branch on
Tuesday restoring service to the line. No homes were affected
while the water was off to make the repair. The 6”
cast iron line had a circular crack in it most likely caused
by the frost beginning to come out of the ground. The repair
was made with a 6” repair clamp referred to in the industry
as a “band aid”.
Please be advised that the due to an
unauthorized use of a fire hydrant off of East Main Street, you may
notice some discoloration in your water. This is due to the scouring
of the minerals on the inside of the pipe. Please avoid doing any
laundry, dishwasher loads or other water use activities, until the
water has cleared. You may need to run the water in your home for a
short period of time to flush your internal pipes.
