Even
the torrential rains from last Thursday night couldn’t
dampen the fun and festive atmosphere of the local Girl
Scouts’ Thinking Day held at the high school. Thinking Day
is part of the Girl Scouts World Thinking Day. In the
US
, Girl Scouts participate in activities, games and projects
with global themes to honor their sister Girl Scouts and Girl
Guides in other countries. The Hopkinton event, hosted in the
high school cafeteria, featured presentations and
informational displays from more then twenty countries.
Cultural diversity was well displayed as the Girl Scouts
prepared and presented foods and drink from the represented
countries.
The
Scouts also displayed informational booths from the different
cultures that described historical information, languages,
games and local customs. To ensure the participants became
aware of the all the diverse nationals, the Scouts were given
passports and were encouraged to visit as many countries as
they could. Once a Scout visited a country their passport was
stamped and they went on to visit another foreign land.
After
the hour long booth touring activity, the Parade of Nations
marched to the auditorium, presenting the various flags from
each country and the troop flags in addition to the Girl Scout
Flag. Once inside, short performances were presented from
troops representing
Haiti
,
Greece
,
Thailand
,
Israel
,
France
and the
USA
. The event concluded, appropriately, with the singing of
"Day is Done".
