As part of the 2018 Boston Marathon, the Boston Athletic Association will celebrate “A Year of Service.” Among the events to take place will be the Boston Marathon Military Relay, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 1918 Military Relay. In 1918, the traditional running of the Boston Marathon was not able to occur due to the expanded role of the United States in World War One. Instead, teams of uniformed sailors and soldiers passed a baton along the length of the Boston Marathon course, and the annual nature of the race was preserved. The 2018 Military Relay will be a relay of military-associated people representing both the various branches of service and the cities and towns along the marathon route in something of a recreation of the 1918 Boston Marathon.

The Boston Athletic Association would appreciate your assistance in making the Community aware of the 2018 Boston Marathon Military Relay. Please note we are looking for people who are associated with the military and have a strong tie to one of the eight Cities and Towns along the Boston Marathon route.

The application form can be found here: https://goo.gl/zz9X5y Please share this application with anyone who you think would be a good candidate to participate in this special event.

All applications are due to susan.treut@gmail.com by midnight Eastern time on February 7. The Boston Athletic Association will review all applications and announce the relay team in late February.
