Topics such as substance abuse, mental health, physical activity, nutrition, bullying, cyber bullying and sexual behavior will all be discussed as the Hopkinton Schools, in conjunction with Hopkinton Youth Services, presents results from the 2010 Metro-West Adolescent Health Survey administered to both middle and high school students last fall.

The presentation will take place on Wednesday, November 30 at 7pm in the High School auditorium. Presenters for the event will be Youth Services Coordinator Jean Vazza and Danielle Petrucci, Wellness Coordinator for the Hopkinton Public Schools. The purpose of the presentation is to share what the data shows about students’ habits, behaviors and decision making and will be instrumental in determining changes in curriculum and school programs, securing funding for health and wellness related initiatives and determining whether current programs and interventions are effective.

Some of the areas to be addressed are:

• Current use of alcohol, marijuana, prescription drugs and cigarettes
• Students perception of stress in their life.
• The percentage of students who have seriously considered suicide
• The number of kids who ever sent or have been sent a sext message
• How safe kids feel in school.
• How many kids have been a victim or perpetrator of bullying or cyber bully.
