The "Three Amigos" a the Volunteer Dinner Ralph Edwards, George Gross and Ray Drawe

ALL the people who volunteer at the Senior Center were treated to a special Volunteer Appreciation Dinner last week, which was held at the Center. This is an important annual event because it’s an opportunity for the staff, Council on Aging Board members and Friends of the Seniors to give thanks to all the volunteers who help keep the Hopkinton Senior Center running smoothly.

Power Loss Update from Senator Karen Spilka

I am still being contacted by many of my constituents about power loss in their neighborhoods. My office and I are continuing to work with NSTAR and National Grid to ensure that power is restored to homes as soon as possible.

I also wanted to provide an update to my constituents who are customers of NSTAR and National Grid about the extent of the outages and the current timeline for power restoration as anticipated by NSTAR and National Grid.

NSTAR is currently reporting:

• Total # of Customers Served - 7,317
• Total # of Customers Without Power - 599

Schools Will Open Wednesday August 31st

School for students in Pre-K and grades 1 through 12 will open tomorrow morning, Wednesday, August 31st. Due to storm damage, however, Superintendent Landman cautions families to be aware of some special circumstances.

Details were provided in a press release sent out this afternoon.

Please be advised that Brush and Leaf Disposal Area of the Town of Hopkinton Recycling Center located on Route 135 (Wood Street) at Hopkinton/Westboro Town Line will be open this week for BRUSH AND LEAF disposal resulting from TROPICAL STORM IRENE.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Due to downed power lines and trees blocking bus routes, and as a result of power outages and downed phone lines blocking communication, we have canceled school for tomorrow, Tuesday, August 30th.

If you have neighbors without power or phone service, please share this information them.

We are disappointed to have to postpone the first day of school, and hope to have better news about Wednesday.

BOS Meeting to Discuss Expanded Gaming

The Board of Selectmen will meet on Wednesday, August 31st from 6:30 - 8:00PM in Room 215 at Town Hall to discuss expanded gaming in Massachusetts and how it can best act to preserve and protect the interests of the Town and its citizens while considering the possibility of passage of a revised gaming bill in the State Legislature.

The following is a statement of Governor Deval Patrick on expanded gaming legislation put forth by the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies on August 23, 2011.

Hopkinton MA. Police Department Missing Person Alert

The Hopkinton Mass. Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Steven Thomas GAUNYA, a 70 year old Hopkinton resident who was last seen leaving his residence on Wednesday August 24, 2011. At that time he was operating a grey 1999 Lexus ES300 bearing Massachusetts registration 3637XF. Mr. GAUNYA is white, 5’ 4”, 150 pounds, white hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing khaki pants and a checkered button down shirt.
