Watkins book “So Far from the Bamboo Grove” is required reading for 7th graders. The book describes her life as an 11 year old in post World War II Korea and her tragic and heartbreaking flight to Japan. On her annual visits to Hopkinton, Watkins signs every copy and writes a short note to every student. Each book is then imprinted with her traditional Japanese stamp.
