Area Democrats to Host Senate Candidates

U.S. Senate candidates Alan Khazei and Bob Massie will be meeting with area voters on Wednesday, July 20 at forum hosted by the Westborough. Shrewsbury, Southborough, Grafton, Northborough, Hopkinton and Ashland Democratic Town Committees (DTC).

The meeting will be held at 7:00 PM at the Forbes Community Building at 9 East Main Street in Westborough. This is the first in a series of events with candidates for U.S. Senate.

Alan Khazei co-founded City Year, a national urban peace corps, and Be the Change, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to building coalitions for public policy change. He worked closely with President Clinton to create AmeriCorps, the national service program whose inspiration was City Year, and with Senator Kennedy to craft and pass the Kennedy Serve America Act. He is an advocate for social justice and has been named one of the Best 25 Leaders in America by US News in 2006.

Bob Massie is a Somerville resident, father of three, and former Lieutenant Governor nominee. He has built his career as a minister, activist, and non-profit executive. He was president of Ceres, the nation's largest coalition of investors and environmental groups, where he co-founded the Global Reporting Initiative, the leading international standard for reporting corporate performance on energy, labor, the environment, and human rights. Massie is running to represent the people of Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate working to build a better life for all.

"It's great that the candidates are coming out to meet with people in this part of the state," commented Jason Palitsch, chair of the Shrewsbury DTC. "I'm glad that Democrats in the area and other interested voters will have the chance to hear them speak."
