Tonight the Board of Selectmen reviewed Fire Chief Stephen Slaman and decided to officially appoint Slaman as permanent Fire Chief. After narrowing down the list of candidates to replace Chief Ken Clark who retired at the end of 2015 to 2 candidates, Selectmen were faced with a dilemma when one of the candidates, current Framingham Chief, Gary Daugherty dropped his candidacy for the position. Stephen Slaman was the only candidate left after the initial search process but Selectmen were reluctant to give him the position as they hoped for a process that would allow them to evaluate more than one candidate. Selectmen initially decided to appoint Slaman as interim Chief and reopen the search process.

After much protest, the Board readdressed the Fire Chief position at the January 5th meeting and decided to allow Slaman to continue his role of Fire Chief until at least the final day in March and decide if the search process should be reopened sometime prior to the March 31st deadline. The Selectmen revealed their decision at the April 5th meeting and officially appointed Stephen Slaman as the permanent Hopkinton Fire Chief.
