At next Tuesdays (April 5th) Board of Selectmen meeting, the board is scheduled to review the performance of the current Hopkinton Fire Chief, Stephen Slaman. Slaman took over as Fire Chief January 1st after Ken Clark retired with 44 years of service to the Hopkinton Fire Department. The board agreed in January to a March 31st deadline to decide if another search process should take place for the position.

The Board of Selectmen initially decided to appoint Stephen Slaman as interim chief and reopen the search process after Ken Clark retired beginning in 2016. The decision came after the only other final candidate current Framingham Fire Chief, Gary Daugherty dropped his candidacy for the position last December. The decision to reopen the search process for the Fire Chief came under criticism from some residents who felt that reopening the search process was unfair to Slaman.

At the January 5th meeting, the Board readdressed the Fire Chief position and decided to allow Slaman to continue his role of Fire Chief until at least the final day in March and decide if the search process should be reopened sometime prior to the March 31st deadline.
