The Classical Music Series Returns to the Hopkinton Center for the Arts with two Special Holiday Concerts

The Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) announces the return of its Classical Music Series with two Holiday concerts. On Easter Sunday at 2 p.m., SoYoung Kwon, violin will perform works by Kreisler, Mozart, Dvorak and Schumann with Keun Young Sun, piano. This concert is free for students and seniors and just $15 for adults. And on Sunday, May 13 at 3 p.m., the HCA will present its second Mother’s Day Classical Music Concert featuring Reverie, Katherine Burmeister, harp and Christine Tsen, cello. Tickets are $15 adults, $10 seniors/students. Concerts will take place on the 2nd floor of the renovated barn at 98 Hayden Rowe St., Hopkinton, MA. SoYoung Kwon​ has appeared in recitals, concerts, festivals, and master classes throughout the United States, Germany, France, Netherlands, China, and Korea. She has won top prizes from the Korea Daily Competition and Eumyeon Competition in Korea, American Protege International Competition, and was chosen as the 2014 Ujung Rising Star by Ujung Art Center. Kwon has been a concertmaster of the Oberlin Chamber Orchestra, the Yale Philharmonia, Boston University Symphony, and the Boston Chamber Symphony, as well as a principal first violin of Gunsan Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, she has played with Soliall Philharmonic Orchestra, New Music New Haven, Eastern Connecticut Symphony, New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Albany Symphony Orchestra, the Macau Orchestra, Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, and KBS Symphony Orchestra. She performs regularly with the Contemporary Music Ensemble Éclat, Haffner Sinfonietta, and is a founding member of the Absolute Trio.

She is a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory (BM), Yale University School of Music (MM, AD), and Boston University (DMA).

Reverie​ (Kathy Burmeister, harp and Christine Tsen, cello) perform all styles of classical compositions while adding their own signature interpretations to each.

Christine Tsen​ is a cellist and poet who has performed both as soloist and in ensembles in America and Europe. Her performance credits include the Rochester Chamber Orchestra, Heidelberg Castle Opera Orchestra, Greece Symphony, Acton-Concord Chamber Orchestra, New World Symphony, and Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra. Tsen graduated from the Eastman School of Music (BM) and the New England Conservatory of Music (MM).

Katherine Burmeister ​came to the United States from South Africa in 1998, where she obtained her B.F.A., specializing in Harp Performance and Teaching from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg under the instruction of Ventura Rosenthal, principal harpist of the National Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with several orchestras and ensemble groups both in South Africa and locally. Burmeister has also performed with Calliope Theatre and The Flyleaf Theatre Company.

The Hopkinton Center for the Arts ​cultivates an inclusive and vibrant community committed to the exploration and enjoyment of the visual and performing arts throughout the MetroWest region. In 2015, the HCA opened its new arts center, consisting of newly renovated classrooms, and a brand new 200-seat performance space.
