Marine Corps Marathon Receives Flame of Marathon

Celebrating the military roots of long distance running, the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) received the Flame of Marathon from the Municipality of Greece, during a ceremony held in Hopkinton, the sister-city of Marathon. The Flame of Marathon was created in 2007 in a ceremony at the Tomb of the Athenians, in Marathon, Greece the site of the historic Battle of Marathon in 490 BC.

Noreen M. Deletti, 40, of Norwood died unexpectedly October 24, 2010. Born in Framingham, she was the daughter of Albert E. Deletti and his partner Karyn McKenzie of Hopkinton and Diane L. Raftery and her partner John Pasciuti of Framingham. She was the fiance of Anthony Scarcella of Dedham.

MetroWest SHINE Program Helps Seniors Understand Medicare Changes

Medicare, the comprehensive health insurance plan for seniors 65 and older, is a challenging and sometimes confusing array of plans, policies, and procedures.
To help sort through the program, Medicare provides assistance in the form of
websites, hotlines and publications. Medicare providers and patient advocate groups also provide counseling and assistance for seniors already enrolled in plans and for those who are new to the system and need help getting started.

Second Episode of "The Principal's Office" Features Chinese Program at High School

The staff at HCAM have recently completed the production of the second episode of "The Principal's Office", the first original series being produced for HCAM Education, Hopkinton's Educational Access Channe, seen on Comcast Channel 10, Verizon Channel 31 and on-line at www.hcam.tv/education.

The latest edition of this series that features Hopkinton High School Principal Alyson Geary introduces the viewers to the high school's new Mandarin Chinese teacher, Ms. Jiling Pan.

Hopkinton Center for the Arts Red Carpet Event November 5

The Hopkinton Center for the Arts will be holding a Red Carpet Event on Friday, November 5 from 7:00 p.m. to midnight at the Doubletree Hotel in Westboro. This elegant, Hollywood-themed evening will be hosted by Doug Meehan, former helicopter reporter with Fox 25 News, and include hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, "Shhh- Auction" items, a beautiful art exhibit and sale, and live music by Hot Acoustics with special guest Barbara Kessler.

Selectmen Receive Update on Library Project

The Hopkinton Board of Selectmen received an update pertaining to the proposed site for a new town library at last evenings meeting. Laura Barry, a temporary member of the Permanent Building committee said at this point the committee is proceeding to a schematic design.
“A public meeting is scheduled for October 28 at the fire station’s community meeting room.” “The selectmen and the general public are encouraged to attend and look at the design of the new library and give comments.” said Barry.

ESL’s Open Mic to Feature Janet Feld on Nov. 6

Folk singer and songwriter Janet Feld will be the featured artist at ESL’s Open Mic Night on Saturday, November 6 with host Barbara Kessler. Feld has been performing her original songs on the coffeehouse circuit since 1986 and teaching music to people of all ages since 1988. Feld is returning to ESL’s Open Mic after sharing some of her heartfelt and humorous songs there last spring.

Absentee ballots are now available at the Town Clerk's office and must be returned to the Clerk's office by noon on Monday, November 1.

Residents wishing to vote by absentee ballot in the upcoming State Election on November 2, can contact the Town Clerk's office for more information at 508-497-9710 or www.hopkinton.org
