Fire Alarms Down at Hopkins

Dear Hopkins Families,

At 8:40 this morning it was brought to our attention that our school’s fire alarm system was inoperable. We immediately notified the Superintendent’s Office, the Fire Chief, and the Hopkins School Crisis Response Team. Teachers and staff were also notified individually that in case of emergency we would utilize other modes of communication, as we have practiced and discussed as part of our school emergency procedures.

The Hopkinton Fire Department instituted a fire watch as an additional safety measure. As a result, a Hopkinton firefighter will be in the building during school hours from 8:40 AM until 4:15 PM. After hours, our custodial and maintenance staff will be monitoring the building.
Working with Dr. MacLeod and the Director of Buildings and Grounds we have determined that a complete replacement of the fire alarm system will be required. We have been advised that this will likely take the remainder of the week. For this reason a fire watch will remain in effect for the duration of the project.

Respectfully,
Tim Kearnan
