Casino-Free Milford, a grassroots movement of Milford citizens concerned about the proposed development of a destination resort casino in town, is encouraging all Milford residents to attend Monday night’s Board of Selectmen’s meeting to hear the details of Foxwoods’ plans for the casino project to be developed on 200 acres of land east of I-495. This meeting was originally scheduled to take place in Town Hall, but has been rescheduled for the auditorium of Milford High School at 7:00 PM.

Casino-Free Milford Co-chairman Steve Trettel hopes that all of Milford’s residents will attend the Foxwoods presentation. Trettel said, “We would love to see every resident of Milford at Monday night’s meeting. It is critical for everyone in Milford to hear directly from Foxwoods the details of their development plans and for mitigating various impacts on our community. We also encourage residents to ask questions and to do their own research regarding how this project will affect their daily lives. When people start reading and researching about what happens to a community when a casino comes to town, we believe they will reach the same conclusion that we have: a destination resort casino simply does not belong in a suburban, residential community like Milford.”

When asked what particular issues should concern Milford’s citizens, Co-chairman John Seaver replied, “We Milford residents need to ask ourselves what kind of impacts this project will have on our daily lives. How much will traffic be increased? Can we expect a rise in crime and DUIs? How will the presence of a casino affect our property values? Foxwoods is tasked with providing solutions for all types of impacts, but we need to ensure they cover everything to our complete satisfaction before we sign a host community agreement.”

Beginning at 4:00 PM, members of Casino-Free Milford will be gathering outside the high school with signs to demonstrate opposition to the Foxwoods MA casino. Supporters are invited to stand with Casino-Free Milford anytime between 4:00 and 7:00 PM and to wear red—the color of Milford’s sports teams—to show their support.
