The Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) is pleased to announced that Hopkinton High School student Zachary Hanson is the winner of the Arts Space logo contest. The design by 17-year-old Hanson was selected out of 27 entries by middle and high school students. “We appreciate that his logo is not a literal translation of an art, theater and music space, but strongly implies the process of creation,” said Kris Waldman, artistic director at HCA. “Its resemblance to a palette or a scratch board conveys the sense of a space where creativity is boundless. It is a bold, easily-read mark that we will be thrilled to use as we launch the new program!”

Art Space is a new after-school program HCA is initiating this spring that will use art as a positive activity for teens who may or may not be engaged in traditional after-school activities. There will be five weekly 3-hour sessions in visual arts, music and theater. The first hour and a half will be “open studio” time where students will engage in unstructured activities. The second half of the session will include more structured classes in visual arts, music and theater. These classes will include drawing, watercolors, print making, improv, breath control for singers, performance coaching, music theory, acting coaching, writing, movement and more! The goal of Art Space is to provide a space that encourages positive self expression, grows self-confidence and nurtures creativity.
