A heat advisory has been issued ahead of Monday's potentially dangerous heat.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for multiple counties in Massachusetts Monday, including: Essex, Hampden and Middlesex. The heat advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. Heat index values around 100 degrees are expected.

"A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected," the National Weather Service stated in the advisory. "The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sunshine, and check up on relatives and neighbors."

Schools across Massachusetts announced closings and early dismissals in preparation for the heat.
