Hiller Clubs Beat D-S in Opener | Hopkinton MA Community TV Stations

The Hiller Varsity team started the season the same way they have finished the last two seasons by winning a very close match against a very talented Dover Sherborn team. Dover has finished runner up in Div. 3 State Championship the last two years and have finished runner up to us as TVL Champs the last two years. We are in Div. 2 when we go to the State Tournament.

The final score today was Hopkinton 209 and D/S 212. The low score wins in these team matches. We take 6 scores from the 8 players. Today we were able to bring 2 alternates to the match played at Sassamon Trace Golf Club located in Natick, MA. The par for nine holes at this course is 32. The Dover team always plays very well at their home course.

Dover led very early in the match as their number one player shot a one under par 31. Their number 5 player (senior female) shot even par 32. At this point in the match the Hillers were down by 4 shots. This is when the Hiller depth of this team really came into play. The Hillers were led by our number 6 player today – Kyle Fairbanks – he scored a one over par 33. The next two scorers for the Hillers were Matt Johnson and Drew Simi and both shot 34’s. Then we had 3 scores of 4 over par 36’s by our seniors – Jeff Holler, Jake Doherty and a real surprise score of 36 from Nathan Mezitt. The Hillers also got scoring from Jacob Southern, who finished with a 37 and Connor Czerpusko shot 38. A great start for the Hiller program.

The next varsity match will be on Tuesday as the Hillers will be taking on Ashland. The JV team will be travelling with 8 players to Westborough CC to play the Rangers.
