JV’s Win the Northstar Championship 5-1

The Hiller JV team capped off the season, winning four games in row this week by a combined total of 19-3, dominating the competition. The championship game had a college atmosphere to it as the stands were full with spectators, including a large contingent of Varsity players and Coach MacPherson. The Hillers spent a great part of the first period in the Northbridge end peppering the goal with shots. Midway through they turned up the heat putting on a clinic on cycling the puck. Spencer Abbott was the beneficiary of the great passing between himself, TJ and Kyle Canty and scored twice in less than a minute. The two quick strikes brought the Hiller fans to their feet, and the cheering was deafening. Bolstered by the electric energy in the arena, the Hillers continued to dominate play.

In the second period, Northbridge cut the lead in half with a goal. Shortly after, the Hillers went on the penalty kill. Kyle Canty broke up one of the forwards at the blue line and chipped the puck up the boards. After winning the footrace to the puck, he broke in alone and put one top shelf for a huge shorthanded goal. The crowd was again whipped into a frenzy and that momentum carried the Hillers the rest of the way. Spencer “The Sniper” Abbott completed the hat trick on a great feed from TJ.

Tim Bloomer capped off the scoring with a great rush from his own blue line, firing a rocket top corner past the goalie. The third period was a text book show of shut down hockey. The Hillers looked as if they were on the power play, dominating shift after shift in the Northbridge end. Late in the period the Rams flipped the puck out of their end toward the Hopkinton goal. With a Northbridge player racing in to try and collected it, Jake Neary came charging out of the net and beat him to the puck at the blue line. The crowd went crazy with cheers of “Neary”, “Neary”. That was a close as the Rams came to a shot in the last period.

TJ Fujiyoshi had 3 assist on the night and Kyle Canty added 2 to go with his shorty goal. All of the players had a hand in the dominating week of hockey and Jake Neary was outstanding in net. Mark McCluskey showed his versatility by playing every position but goalie this week and was a key factor to the team success. Tim Greizer, Everett Rolph, Tim Bloomer and Dominic Yannino were outstanding on defense and limited the opposition to very few quality chances while contributing on the offensive end as well. Nick Temple, Kyle Schilke and Freeman Alfano were all key in their defensive and offensive end play.

After the game the locker room was rocking. The celebration was well deserved. After Coach Messier and Carty congratulated the team, Varsity coach MacPherson addressed the players and lauded their accomplishment this season and the game. The Varsity players that were on hand, in a great show of solidarity, then came in to congratulate team.

JV Hiller Champions sounds great!
