Hillers Girls Basketball Advances

On Thursday Night (3/3) the 4th seeded, 14 and 6 Hopkinton Lady Hillers took on the 5th seeded 13 and 7 Ashland Clockers in the Central Division 2 Quarterfinals. The Hillers pulled off the victory 54-47 in a great battle with cross-town rival Ashland. Julia Canestrari led the way for the Hillers with a team high 17 points.

The 1st quarter was dominated by Ashland, Seniors, Sam Leone and Megan Russell each chipped in with 6 points as the Clockers outscored the Hillers 16-9 in the quarter. The 2nd quarter was back and forth as Julia Canestrari heated up and knocked down a pair of 3’s to help the Hillers outscore Ashland 11-9 in the 2nd quarter. At the half, Ashland led 25-20.

The Hillers started off the 3rd with a nice run by drawing fouls. Hillers scored 5 of their 13 third quarter points at the line as they outscored Ashland 13-10. The 4th quarter was mostly all Hillers from the start as they added 7 more points from the free throw line as well as a pair of field goals from Lilly Morningstar and Mikayla Pucci. Ashland Senior, Sam Leone scored her 1,000th high school career point late in the 4th quarter but the Hillers were too much to handle and took the quarter 21-12 and the game, 54-47.

Hopkinton advances to play Wednesday night, March 9th, 7:30 at Clark University, against the winner of Notre Dame-Marlboro.
