Hopkins Practice Lockdown

Dear Families,

This afternoon at 2:00, the Hopkins' students and staff held a lockdown practice drill. The students and staff practiced some of the 'enhanced lockdown' options that were discussed with students last week and I mentioned to you in my 5/22/15 e-mail correspondence. The practice drill lasted approximately 6 minutes.
The students and staff were informed in advance this was a practice drill. Most teachers also told students we would be practicing today, though students were not given an exact time.
Students remained in their classrooms and responded to the given scenario with their teachers. For example, teachers had students practice barricading doors and/or hiding within their classrooms.
Following the practice drill, students and teachers discussed potential options, the chosen course of action, and any questions kids might have.
Continued discussion about lockdowns with your child at home would help to reinforce our need to be vigilant about school safety and being prepared as a school community. If you or your child has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Respectfully,
Tim Kearnan
