Dear Hopkins Families,

At approximately 9:10 this morning, our fire alarm system was unexpectedly activated and Hopkins School evacuated to our fields. All students and staff were immediately accounted for, per our evacuation procedures. The fire department was on scene and after an investigation determined that there had been a small, contained fire in a bathroom that activated the sprinkler system in the area.

After considering alternative evacuation locations (HMS and HHS), we were advised that students would soon be able to re-enter the building safely. We returned into the Hopkins building at approximately 10:35. The students did an outstanding job, following our fire evacuation procedures and the directions of all adults. We have reassured the students and answered questions regarding the situation. I will send a follow-up email with more information as it is made available to me, but wanted to communicate what I know at this time.

Thank you,
Vanessa Bilello
