The Hopkinton Upper Charles Trail Committee invites the public to the second annual Art on the Trail exhibition opening along the Hopkinton Center Trail on Sunday, August 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. The exhibit includes 20 new sculpture installations, created by resident artists and groups from Hopkinton and nearby towns. At 2:15, speakers will deliver introductory remarks at the Center Trail entrance across from Hopkinton Lumber, and at 2:45, the artists will accompany the group on a walk to visit each installation. Good walking shoes and water are recommended for those planning to walk the full exhibit (less than 2 miles round trip). This free exhibition will be on display through September 25 and is expected to draw more than 5,000 people. For more information, visit http://uctc.hopkintonma.gov/.

Due to the popularity of last year’s exhibit, this year will see double the number of installations along the trail, including “House of Books,” “Armor Dresses,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Recycled Owls,” and a participatory sculpture “Exploding Chalk Board!” Some of the projects will be produced with the help of community groups such as the Hopkinton Public Library’s 1000 Homes for Hopkinton, the Senior Center, Girl Scouts, Housewives of Hopkinton, Robert Adams Middle School of Holliston, and Hopkinton Center for the Arts.

On September 18 at 2 p.m., a poetry reading along the trail will feature these pieces, adding another dimension to Art on the Trail. During Poetry on the Trail, nearly 20 local poets, led by Polly Brown and Cheryl Perreault, will tour the trail and respond to the artwork with original poems composed en plein air.

This exhibition is made possible through a collaboration of the Upper Charles Trail Committee, Hopkinton Center for the Arts, the Hopkinton Area Land Trust, sculptor Michael Alfano, Jeffrey Barnes, Cheryl Perreault, and Polly Brown. Please join us in celebrating the arts in Hopkinton at the second annual Art on the Trail exhibition.
