Native plants are increasingly recognized as important to our gardens and landscapes, but why? Claudia Thompson, President of “Grow Native Massachusetts”, will present an overview of the essential role of native plants in ecosystem health. She’ll start with the concept of co-evolution between plants and animals and end with a tour of her 7,000 square foot garden. We’ll learn the essential principles for designing landscapes that are places of beauty and biodiversity including working with local ecology, thinking about plant communities, and creating habitat for birds, butterflies, and wildlife. By the end of the program, you will "get" why native plants are so important and understand what you can do in your own garden to make the world a better place!
Ms. Thompson founded “Grow Native” in 2010. Her career began as a teacher and environmental educator committed to getting students out into the field. She has served as a Director for the Appalachian Mountain Club and for Drumlin Farm for Mass Audubon, and has worked for several other similar organizations.

Our meeting will be held at Faith Community Church, 146 E. Main Street, Room 213, in Hopkinton. Our general meeting starts at 6:30p.m. The speaker portion starts at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. New members are welcome any time during our club year.
