The Hopkinton Lady Hillers took a big 69-44 victory Friday Night over the Holliston Panthers. Hopkinton’s balanced offensive attack and interior dominance allowed the Hillers to get within 3 wins of clinching a tournament spot. Holly Adams led the way for the Hillers racking up 17 points and 14 rebounds.
In the first quarter Holliston struggled to hit any shot from the floor and tallied up 8 points compared to 19 from the Hillers. Reagan Keavany (11 Points) dropped a pair of 3’s to help lead the Hillers offensive surge. Holliston got within 9 in the second quarter but ran into foul trouble early and Hopkinton took advantage knocking down 9 free throws. Hopkinton outscored Holliston 21-14 in the second quarter and went into halftime leading 40-22.
Throughout the 2nd half Hillers coach Rita Atkinson was able to utilize practically the whole roster as Holliston struggled to contain Holly Adams underneath who took complete control of the offensive and defensive boards. The Hillers once again took advantage of free throw opportunities, which accounted for 7 of their 15 third quarter points.
Heading into the fourth quarter the Hillers had a 55-33 lead and rested starters for much of the final 8 minutes. Hopkinton’s height advantage on the boards proved to be too much for Holliston to handle as the Hillers cruised through the fourth quarter outscoring Holliston 14-11, and walked away with the 69-44 victory.
Hillers Coach Rita Atkinson is likely very proud of this TVL victory, as not only did the Hillers improve to 7 and 5 on the season but they had complete control of the game for most of the 32 minutes. The Lady Hillers will have a big task Monday February 2nd as they take on TVL rival Medfield. 6 and 7 Holliston will be at home Monday against TVL Rival Ashland.
