You are cordially invited to participate in the Second Annual Hopkinton Middle School 2.62 Marathon Challenge. This school-wide 2.62-mile run/walk will take place, weather permitting, on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 12:00 PM. We will start at the flagpole in front of Hopkinton Middle School and proceed around the campus with the finish and celebration on the track behind the school.

The 26.2 Desire To Inspire program was a response by teachers at the Hopkinton Middle School to the bombings at the 2013 Boston Marathon. The caring and passionate teachers in our school volunteered their time to develop and implement this program. The idea was to inspire students to keep the positive spirit of the Marathon alive. Since then it has become so much more, encompassing the study of Greece, the history of the Marathon, the Olympics and the "Boston Marathon". Teachers in math, science, social studies, English, music, art, foreign language and physical education have created curriculum lessons focusing on the theme of the marathon. Special events this year have included visits by 2014 Boston Marathon Winner, Meb Keflezighi and four time Olympian and gold medalist, Sheila Taormina.

If the event is postponed due to the weather, the alternate date is Tuesday, April 14, 2015. Please RSVP by Thursday, April 9, 2015 to dpinto@hopkinton.k12.ma.us.

Sincerely,

Debra Pinto and the 26.2 Desire to Inspire Advisory Board
