On Saturday, October 18th, at approximately 10:30 pm a coach on a school bus reported concerns that the bus driver may be intoxicated. Twentyfive Hopkinton High School cross country members were on the bus returning from a meet. Officer Aaron O’Neil was dispatched to the area and located the bus as it was turning into the Hopkinton High School parking lot.

All of the passengers on the bus disembarked and Officer O’Neil made contact with the driver. The bus driver was identified as 59 year old, Robert E. Murphy, who is a resident of Ashland. Officer O’Neil conducted a series of standardized field sobriety tests and at the conclusion placed Mr. Murphy under arrest for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, third offense and operating a motor vehicle to endanger.

Robert E. Murphy was transported to the Hopkinton Police Department. Murphy was booked and bail was arranged through the bail commissioner. Murphy is scheduled to appear in Framingham District Court on Monday, October 20th, for arraignment.
