To help identify and meet future community needs, the Hopkinton Public Library will soon launch a strategic planning process. Library Director Rownak Hussain - with the assistance of library consultant Barbara Friedman and a volunteer planning committee - will lead a three-month process to identify library strengths, opportunities and aspirations and determine how to measure them. Two focus groups, consisting of town officials, community leaders, students, library staff, library users, non-library users and a range of residents, will add their input.

To wrap up the planning process, the planning committee will develop a final report that includes goals, objectives and action plans. Ms. Hussain will communicate the report to library trustees, selectmen, residents and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

The Board of Library Trustees is excited to start the strategic planning process and hopes the community will get involved. “The final plan will help set the library’s future course,” said Marie Eldridge, board chairman. “We encourage people to participate in the focus groups. For the planning process to work well, we need them to share their expectations, needs and vision for their town library.”

The focus groups will be held on Tuesday, April 23, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and Thursday, April 25, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. If you would like to participate in one of the groups, contact Rownak Hussain by April 1st at 508-497-3400 or at rownak@hopkintonma.gov
