On April 7, 2020, in response to the ongoing COVID-19 public health emergency, the Town of Hopkinton Select Board unanimously voted to adopt several tax relief provisions recently authorized in State law.

Specific changes include an extension of the due date for fourth-quarter real estate and personal property taxes from May 1, 2020 to June 1, 2020 and an extension of the due date for applications for property tax exemptions to June 1, 2020. In addition, the Select Board voted to waive interest and other penalties for late payments of property taxes, betterment assessments, water/sewer bills, or any other charges added to tax for payments with a due date on or after March 10, 2020, when payment is made by June 30, 2020.

In explaining the action, Town Manager Norman Khumalo said, “COVID-19 has imposed economic hardships on many residents of Hopkinton, and across the Commonwealth. The Select Board’s actions provide all the relief available under the law.”
