Hopkinton, MA - Sunshine Preschool welcomes Nicole Dreiske, Executive Director of the International Children's Media Center for a parent/teacher workshop, My First Media- Practical Pedagogies for Using Screen Time to Improve Early Childhood Education, on Thursday, May 8, 6:30 pm at St. John's Church, 20 Church St., Hopkinton, MA.

The My First Media workshop gives teachers and parents the tools to teach children the best way to interact with screens. According to Dreiske, "Screen time should support, not strain early childhood development and the right approach to screen time can help children advance developmentally and educationally." Because Dreiske's remarkable method is focused on story-telling and literacy, it connects screen time to Common Core frameworks in the classroom and gives parents new ways to interact with their children around screens at home.

Participants will learn:
•How to talk with children about what they're watching
•What to do and say before turning on the screen
•Step-by-step exercises for using media as a learning tool in the classroom

Developed at the request of the IL Teacher's Union and the IL Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the ICMC's neuroscience-based strategies have been taught in hundreds of schools and at national regional and international conferences from the World Summit on Media to NAEYC.
