New Location - Hopkinton High School

Come join us for an Earth Day celebration hosted by the HPTA, at the Hopkinton High School, on Saturday, April 30th from 10am – 3pm and learn how to reduce your environmental footprint. The Hopkinton Green Expo includes live entertainment, 30+ green vendors, green product demos including a beehive, a rain barrel and a Prius Hybrid from Zipcar as well as plenty of activities to keep the kids busy for hours. It’s all free!

Bring your plastic caps, old sneakers, eyeglasses, Styrofoam peanuts, inkjets and plastic bags to the Small Hands Big Hearts Recycling Center run by the kids from the Hopkinton Moms Club at the entrance to the High School. Then get an event map and head downstairs to the gym for a day full of green fun! Kids will be inspired by the Green Glam Fashion Runway starring the Let’s Sing! Dance! Act!’ troupe at 10:30. Then they can create their own fashions with the help of the Art on Wheels crew and join them for 2 encore Fashion runways later in the day. Meanwhile you can fill up your reusable bag (BYOB) with brand label clothing and toys for just $10 at the HopSwap in the cafeteria. Make that $5 if you’ve donated to the HopSwap.

Grab a drink from Starbucks or Honest tea before you drop-off your children at the 11 am Animal Adventures show in the gym and head to the Ready, Set Green Your Home workshop held at the same time by Green Consultant Rachel White one aisle over. Learn what REI’s family adventure program is all about and talk to area conservation groups about local efforts to go green. Art and Environmental Sculpture booths like the Bottle House and Plastic Earth will educate, inform and inspire you to sign pledges and say ‘No’ to plastic bags and water bottles. A Green Tower sculpture station will take shape as participants add recycled materials to create an organic shape. A handprint mural invites the public to leave a signed handprint with their own promise or wish for the Earth. Little ones can create eco-crafts at a Scrounge station.

Join the yoga sessions in the gym led by instructors from bCalm Yoga and get a free chair massage at one of the 3 massage stations by Body & Beyond or Theracopia while you are entertained by live music from the High School Jazz groups and choral groups. Don’t forget to visit the vendor tables for product samples and special offers from local companies. You can also buy products ranging from jewelry made with reclaimed silver to organic cloth diapers. See list of vendors below.

There’s still time to enter the Eco-Art and Literature exhibition. Just bring your entry to the front-office of your school by Friday. The entries will be part of the Art exhibition at the Expo. Awards will be given to all participants. Cheer the Boy Scouts as they race their solar cars in front of the High School entrance at 2 pm.
