Hopkinton resident Jim Montalto and Hopkinton natives Leah Holmes and Maggie Sloan (pictured) will run the 2016 Boston Marathon to raise money for the restoration, renovation and expansion of Hopkinton Public Library.

Last year, Jim Montalto ran the 26.2 miles to Boston for the Library and raised over $11,000 for the renovation and expansion project. Since moving to Hopkinton with his family nine years ago, Jim has been taking advantage of all the Library has to offer. “The staff is terrific and the Library is a wonderful place to be. As great as it is, the building’s size and age limit what it can provide,” he says. “Our Town deserves a better place where anyone of any age can meet, learn and explore. I’m happy for the opportunity to help Hopkinton work toward improving such a vital resource to our Town’s population and its generations to come.”

Leah Holmes grew up only blocks from the Library and regularly took advantage of the Library’s resources and programs until she left for Lehigh University. Running in her first Boston Marathon, Leah hopes to best her only marathon time of 3:36 at the Lehigh Valley Marathon. Leah’s mother, Maureen Holmes, ran Boston and raised money for the Library in 2014. Leah says about her family of Library enthusiasts, “We love having a very nice public library right in the center of town and hope that our fundraising efforts will encourage people to visit the Library more often and take advantage of the many resources it has to offer!”

Maggie Sloan also grew up only few blocks away from the Library and has fond memories of the countless hours she spent reading at the Library. Maggie says, “Reading is so important and having a space that welcomes you is the first step. All the funds I raise will help the Library impact more lives and help others’ dreams come true too.” Living in Hopkinton, Maggie watched many starts of the Boston Marathon as a child and is thrilled to be on the starting line this year in support of her hometown Library. An avid runner, Maggie has run four marathons over the last four years, but this will be her first Boston Marathon.
