The Library Director is responsible for all library operations, including planning, budgeting,
public relations, and personnel administration. The Director will work closely with a dedicated,
well-trained and service-oriented staff, Town management, community leaders, professional
organizations, and other library directors. The successful candidate will have proven experience
in library administration, including the ability to articulate a vision for the library services and
inspire others within the library and throughout the Hopkinton community.
QUALIFICATIONS
 Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school; seven (7) years of
progressively responsible experience in library administration, including three (3) years
in a supervisory capacity, including personnel management, fiscal management, program
development and facility management, as well as demonstrated leadership qualities and
experience leading and mentoring staff.
 State Certification of Librarianship from the Massachusetts Board of Library
Commissioners required.
 Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of professional library work.
 Thorough knowledge of the management and organization of library operations including
collection development, administration, personnel and finance.
 Building maintenance and public administration management knowledge.
 Working knowledge of computerization and appropriate library applications.
 Ability to supervise staff in an effective and supportive manner.
 Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with organizations, departments
and officials.
 Ability of leadership, independent judgment, initiative and decision-making.
 Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate effective library services, strategies, facilities
and staff.
 Ability to communicate effectively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
 Excellent planning and organizational skills.
 Proficient computer skills and budgetary skills; interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Grant writing and fundraising skills.
Hiring Pay Range: $60,000 to $75,000 annually dependent on qualifications; Full Range to
$85,000.
