Effective July 1st, the MetroWest Veterans' Services District Seeks a 37.5 hours/week Administrative Specialist

$19.00 per hour

Up to $20.00 per hour upon completion of in-training period.

Office Location: Central Office 1750 Washington St, Holliston 01746

Work schedule is Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Under the direction of the Director, the Administrative Specialist (AS) assists Director and Veterans’ Agent with administrative and secretarial work delivering essential services to Veterans and their eligible dependents residing in the communities of the district (Ashland, Holliston, Hopkinton and Medway) in the administration of federal, state and local benefits to assist veterans, widows and dependents in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws (MGL) Chapter 115.

The Administrative Specialist performs a wide range of administrative duties related to M.G.L. Chapter 115 to include state submissions using Virtual Gateway software. The AS assists the Director with administrative implementation, maintenance and application of the MetroWest Veterans’ Emergency Assistance Fund; develops correspondence and performs follow up tasks related to VA claims; performs a wide range of duties requiring knowledge of Veterans’ Services operations requiring the ability to exercise judgment and initiative in responding to inquiries, particularly in situations not clearly defined by precedent, or established procedures.

Qualifications:

Equivalent to an Associates degree and 3-5 years experience in office procedures, Google docs, MS Office, specifically Excel and Word, creating or updating websites and social media sites highly beneficial. Experience in dealing with the public. Direct experience working in a Veterans’ Services office or in a municipal office setting highly preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge and ability to follow office practices and procedures, department operations and functions to include knowledge of laws and policies relating to Veterans and their dependents.

Ability to work independently. Ability to work effectively under time constraints to meet deadlines. Ability to interact tactfully and appropriately with the general public and city departments. Ability to maintain and organize detailed and extensive records and to prepare reports.

Proven excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; Oral and written communication skills. Computer proficiency.
