John E. Cahill, 90

John E. Cahill, 90, died Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Medway Country Manor. He was the husband of the late Evelyn M. (Cellucci) Cahill, who died in February 2008.

Born in Hopkinton, he was the son of the late John E. (Jack) Cahill Sr. and Ida (Koskela) Cahill.

John was a lifelong resident of Hopkinton and worked as a US Postal letter carrier there for 30 years.

He was a WWII Marine Veteran of A Company 5th Engineer Battalion 26th Marine Regiment 5th Division where he served in the Iwo Jima Conflict and earned a Purple Heart.

He was an active member of veterans' charities including the American Legion Daniel L. McDonough Post 202 of Hopkinton.

He worked as a bartender at Carbone's Restaurant for many years and was an avid card player.

He is survived by his children John Cahill, Patrick Cahill and Alice Cahill, his grandchildren Dawn, Rick, Lynne and John, his great-grandchildren Dean, Nicole, Evelyn and Castor and his great great-grandchildren JJ and Denali. He also leaves his brother Dick Cahill, his sister Harriett Therrien and his special friend Veronica Bilodeau.

He is predeceased by his son Brian Cahill.

The family would like to thank all of John's friends and the people of Hopkinton who helped and watched over him during these last few years.

In addition, they would like to give thanks to the Hopkinton Police Department, Fire Department and ambulance EMTs for all their help and quick responses.
