On Saturday, April 6, the Boy Scouts from Troop 4 will hold their 4th Annual Pancake Breakfast. Breakfast will be served by the scouts from 7:30 AM until 11:30 AM inside the Church Hall at St. John the Evangelist, located at 20 Church Street in Hopkinton. The boys will cook original, chocolate chip and gluten/nut/dairy free pancakes. They will also serve sausages, juice, coffee and more. After a successful first three years they are planning to serve over 500 people!

During the pancake breakfast, visitors are invited to take part in the silent auction. There will be tables of donations ranging in value from $5 and up. Some of the items that have been donated include: 2 weeks at Camp Cody, a Hopkinton Boating membership and a Summer Pool Membership at the YMCA in Hopkinton. If you would like to make a donation to the silent auction or to Troop 4, please call (508) 625-2085.

Admission to the all you can eat Pancake Breakfast is $5 in advance, $6 at the door. Senior citizens are $3 in advance, $4 at the door. Veterans eat free.

All proceeds from the Pancake Breakfast and Silent Auction go to Troop 4 scouting programs.

Last June 2012, 26 scouts and leaders traveled to Yosemite National Park for a weeklong 50-mile hiking adventure through the park’s 1,200 square miles of deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, and unbelievable waterfalls. The scouts climbed the highest peak in the park, Red Peak Pass at 11,300 feet above sea level. Preparation for this trip required many weekend hikes and conditioning for this challenging adventure where the backpacks weighed at least 50 pounds. Not only was this a test of physical strength and endurance but the scouts learned an invaluable lesson in teamwork and leadership. This was a remarkable experience that the scouts will not forget!

The Troop will be planning additional trips to National Parks in the East and Southwest with the proceeds of the Pancake Breakfast. Each scout is trying to sell at least 20 tickets to the Pancake Breakfast to help earn money to subsidize the cost of a future trip. Last year we had one scout sell over 200 tickets. It is amazing what the boys can do when you lay out a challenge for them.

It is programs like these that provide the youth of Hopkinton with a quality scouting experience. All scouts are given the opportunity to take on leadership roles in the troop and on camping adventures, which helps them build the skills they will need to become strong leaders in our community and for our country.

Please join us and support your local Scouting program. For additional information, tickets or donations please call (508) 625-2085.
