FRAMINGHAM, MA – Keefe Regional Technical School is pleased to announce that juniors and seniors from their Carpentry, Electrical and Plumbing career and technical programs will use their skills to build a duplex home located at 299/301 Bacon Street in Natick, MA, in partnership with Natick Housing Trust and Family Promise of Natick.

Planning for the project began in October of 2014, when Natick Housing Trust contacted Keefe Tech about a partnership as general contractor through the school’s House Building Program. After nearly two years of planning, groundbreaking occurred in spring of 2016 and a foundation was poured before summer vacation. The completed project will be a duplex consisting of one unit with three bedrooms and one and a half baths, and another unit with two bedrooms and one bath.

Moving forward, the building schedule will progress as weather permits, with plans for the structure to be weather tight by the end of January 2017. Keefe Tech’s Plumbing and Electrical students will then begin their portion of work on the duplex, followed by installation of insulation and board. Next, Carpentry students will step in with their skills to work on finished carpentry through spring 2017.

The Keefe Tech House Building Program is a longstanding example of the school’s ability to give back to the communities it serves. Since 1975, students have been building quality homes throughout Keefe’s five town district and leaving a lasting legacy for the owners, the school, and the towns. Most recently, students completed a 2,200 square foot colonial home in Hopkinton in 2011.

“The Keefe Regional Technical School House Building Program is a great opportunity for our students to become educated in their chosen field of Carpentry, Electrical, and Plumbing, working in real time on most phases in the construction of a house,” said John Brochu, Director of Career and Technical Education. “We are proud of the junior and senior students who contribute to the building of the house because it is a long lasting reminder of their accomplishments, and more importantly, will help families create a home.”

The mission of Natick Housing Trust is to provide for the creation and preservation of affordable housing in the Town of Natick for the benefit of low and moderate income individuals and families. Family Promise of Natick, an agency that helps homeless families to find permanent housing, will facilitate placing tenants in the completed duplex.
